JAMAICA TOURIST BOARD TARGETS GROWING SECTOR OF HOMEWORKING TRAVEL AGENTS

London, UK – 12th December 2024: The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has announced a series of innovative initiatives for 2025 aimed at supporting and empowering the growing sector of homeworking travel agents. Recognising that 60% of UK-based retail travel agents are now home-based, the JTB has become the first National Tourist Office (NTO) to establish a dedicated Business Development Officer (BDO) role for this sector.

Dedicated Support for Homeworkers

Donovan Donaldson, previously BDO for the Southern UK, now takes on the newly created role as BDO for homeworking sellers. Donovan’s remit includes supporting 50 identified homeworking groups in the UK through targeted training, hybrid Fam trips, and exclusive resources. This groundbreaking role underscores the JTB’s commitment to adapting to the evolving travel industry landscape. Sean-Pierre Webster has now joined the UK team to step in to the role of BDO for the Southern UK.

Hybrid Fam Trips and Exclusive Experiences

The JTB is introducing first-of-its-kind hybrid Familiarisation (Fam) trips designed specifically for home-based agents. These trips allow participants to seamlessly balance work commitments during the mornings while exploring Jamaica’s stunning resorts, iconic attractions, and rich cultural experiences in the afternoons.

In 2025, the JTB will host eight Fam trips, showcasing new properties such as the Riu Aquarelle and Princess Resorts. A special Fam trip is also planned for the vibrant Jamaica Carnival, providing a unique opportunity for agents to immerse themselves in the island’s festive culture.

Comprehensive Agent Support

The JTB is launching several initiatives to further support homeworkers, including:

  • Monthly Clinics: Networking events in regional hotspots featuring immersive “sensory Jamaica” experiences where agents can bring clients to discover the destination.
  • Consumer Show Packs: Agents participating in consumer shows will receive financial contributions, promotional materials, brochures, and branded banners.
  • Webinars and Training: Regular sessions on key topics, including villas, city and beach tourism, and new product offerings, keeping agents informed on Jamaica’s diverse experiences.

2025 Agent Initiatives

In addition to homeworkers, the JTB will work tirelessly to support all agents with a number of trade initiatives throughout the year including:

Rewarding Top Performers

Top-performing agents will be recognised and rewarded throughout the year. Five outstanding bookers will receive invitations to the exclusive One Love Affair, while ten agents will join the JTB at the prestigious MBR Peaks Performance Awards in London on 1st May, as the travel industry gathers to recognise the top sales performance of agents for the opportunity to win luxury prizes.

Roadshows and Trade Events

The JTB will hold its annual Agent Roadshow in June 2025 and the hotly anticipated Jamaica Travel Market will make a comeback in October. These events will connect agents with suppliers, providing valuable insights and opportunities to enhance their offerings.

Continuing to Strengthen Trade Partnerships

The JTB’s enduring partnership with the trade community is reflected in Jamaica’s achievement as the most visited Caribbean Island by UK travellers for the second consecutive year.

“We are incredibly proud of our trade relationships. We aim to empower trade professionals and enhance their ability to promote Jamaica. Our commitment to supporting the trade is unwavering, and our dedicated team is passionate about fostering collaboration and driving success together.” said Elizabeth Fox, Regional Director, UK & Northern Europe.

Torrance Lewis District Sales Manager says “The travel agent community has been the backbone of our success. We are proud to support your efforts and excited to elevate Jamaica further as a leading destination, delivering unforgettable experiences for your clients. We have exciting plans for 2025 and look forward to continuing our relationship with you in 2025 and beyond”
